NSO Certificate Application Terms

The National Statistics Office (NSO) (Census) birth certificate in the Philippines is a document that is highly valued. The same follows in other countries as the papers that were originally produced from online or offline application may be used a primary identification.

In most cases, when a person or a Filipino is planning to go abroad, passport application in DFA will require the authenticated NSO birth certificate. Allow me to inform you that there are other uses for you birth certificate but since it is a must in most cases of work or travel abroad, here are a few tips about your Census birth certificate.

Things to Remember When Requesting for Any NSO Document:

1.) If you are to apply online, only paid document requests shall be processed by the NSO.

2.) Certificates issued by the NSO are considered rendered service. That is since it has undergone all necessary processes to arrive at your document. Whether your request results to positive issuances / certifications or negative ones, it is considered rendered service and must be paid.

3.) If you provided a wrong mailing address and will result to returned mail delivery, it will also be considered rendered service (please be 100% sure when you enter details in your order form). Inclusion of wrong mailing address may be due to wrong mailing address provided by the person requesting any form of document from the NSO / Census or resident transferred to another address as well as other related circumstances.

4.) Deliveries within Philippines:

A. Birth Certificates:
"Only the following are authorized to receive birth documents:"
  • the owner of the document;
  • spouse;
  • direct descendants/ascendants and
  • guardian.
Only the parent or guardian for a minor document owner is allowed to authorize the receiving of document (birth certificate). A valid ID however will be required proving authorization by name and it must come with the proof/declaration of guardianship to present upon delivery.

If the one to receive birth certificate is not any of the above mentioned authorized persons, an authorization letter with the ID of the authorized person together with his/her valid ID must be presented.

B. Marriage and Death Certificates and CENOMAR (Singleness):
In this case, only either the document owner, the requesting party or their representative is allowed to receive marriage and death certificates.

A valid ID is required to be presented when receiving the above mentioned certificates.

5.) Processing terms of paid Copy Issuance requests takes about three (3) working days after receipt of payment.

(9) working days for Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR or Singleness) requests.

Delivery will take two (2) to six (6) working days for destinations within the Philippines and six (6) to eight (8) weeks for outside the Philippines.
